Within the last years the statistic requirements on covering systems in fruit growing have constantly risen because of the weather influences such as heavy rain, hail or stormy winds steadily becoming more violent. The consequence is that the framework has to cope with increasing forces and therefore has to be built extremely firm by his construction and the utilized materials. Furthermore a solution is needed which is seen from the point of installation as quickly and easy as possible and thus as cost efficient as possible to install.
According to these requirements we consequently use a framework which sets the benchmark concerning stability and safety of the system due to high quality steel tubes, extremely resilient steel cables and amply dimensioned ground anchors. The further advantages of a steel construction are apparent because it is not only the special durability of 50 years but also the efficient installation which clearly argue for a steel system. Regarding the covers we use the VOEN mesh covers with the automatic ventilation for years now, the width of the covers is specifically chosen according to the width of your planting rows.
For our system framework we use round steel tubes with a material dimension of 3mm for guaranteeing the stability of the covering system. The little anchors which are produced just for these steel tubes are turned 30cm into the soil and serve as stabilization for the posts. The steel posts are put upon the anchors and then they are screwed by putting a gate hook through the post and the anchor so the posts get an additional firm foothold below.
The length of the inner posts is regulated to the height of the system which is individually calculated for each covering project the angular set posts are normally one meter shorter dimensioned. Screwings are put on top of the steel posts thus the fixation and the correct course of the cross cables can be warrantied. At the outside of the system to each post at the end of the row one anchor and to each angular set post minimum three anchors are allocated, they serve for an optimal bracing of the system.
For transforming the single posts into a solid and weather resistant framework construction the whole system has to be braced in longitudinal and cross direction correctly.
For bracing our scaffolds we exclusively use high quality steel cables with a diameter of 6mm. Basically the cross bracing goes above the longitudinal bracing this fact enables a comfortable fixation of the covers because there are no cables underneath the cover roof. All the cables have in common that they are braced from one anchor over the whole orchard to the opposite anchor and then fixed with cable clamps. In order to stabilize and secure the system in an additional way the outer posts are braced with an 8mm steel cable to the ground anchors.
After the framework is completed and all the bracings are done it is time for fixing the VOEN mesh covers. For this step the half sided covers are fixed with our VOEN top clips on the longitudinal steel cable in the special manner that the covers are always installed on the longitudinal cable overlapping about 10 cm.
In the eave the covers are bonded with the VOEN joining clips with a distance of 80cm so the typical form of a roof develops. At the end of the rows the overcoming cover is pulled down and then fixed with elastics at the 6mm cables going down to the anchors.
